Magic Moments of ICC World CUP 2011

Hi all,

Today is 17th February, 2011 two arch rivals India and England. It had to be a special match. The opponents are equal in both strengths and full of aggression. But, who knew this day will remain special in the history of Cricket? Atleast, we, the hostelites of H-12 never expected this thrill. Rather some fools like me started saying "what a one sided match". Sorry, I forgot the mantra of Cricket "you never know, anything can happen"..

It was 338, a massive score from Indian batting line up. The laws of world cricket implying its impossible to chase this. But, Strauss had learned some different set of equations. He started with a boundary, with cool head. Throughout the innings English batsmen had only one answer to all variations of Indian bowling, throwing them to the gallery. The last equation I still remember was that England needs 61 out of 54 balls and had 8 wickets in hand. Strauss and Bell are taking singles like they are having morning walks in the M. Chinnaswamy garden.

But, God of cricket had some other plan. Zaheer bowled awesome yorkers, great awesome fieldings, sudden change in Indian team, all bowlers suddenly become alive in the field. English batting line up collapsed like anything. The atmosphere at the fifth floor of H-12 was electrifying. All shouting like anything, playing drums (should be saying kicking the drums). Suddenly it seemed there is some " charak mela" in the hostel and all kids are up there without the their parents around. Well, I was one of them and I hardly remember any day I had enjoyed a cricket match more than today. Well, I was one of the team leader of the shouts :) with little voice but great enthusiasm. It just when all smelt the victory, चावला घुमा दिया, बल घुमाके मैच को ही घुमा दिया " I wud say that was the turning point. None can afford two sixes at such conditions. I have hard people saying. " एक six हज़म हो भी जाता पर 2 sixes कैसे? "

The rest is best written in cricinfo.

Well well well. If it weren't for Munaf's short run from the last ball of India's innings India would have this game! Incredible match, Strauss's innings must rank as the best England ODI innings after Gooch's World Cup 115 in 1983. Fourth tied game in World Cup history. Breathless stuff, that game has twisted one way and another and again and another before ending up even. Ian Bell's Powerplay shot? India fluffing their last few overs with the bat? Misfields all round, all end up magnified. Even the SHORT run from Indian tail enders seemed to be the real culprit. It all happens when you end up tying up just because short of one run and it all happends in Cricket. Some love it, some feel bad, and some say these are the magic moments of cricket....

International Mother Language Day

Hi all,

Today is 21st February, the International Mother Language Day. According to Wikipedia, "International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism".

Staying in IIT Bombay campus which is the hub of so many languages from all over the India (perhaps all over the world), I feel amazed how so many different but connected languages standing side by side form a circle of multilingualism. It is difficult to manifest how this circle of multilingualism makes our country culturally prosperous. During my stay here in natural language processing group, often I have felt the unerring presence of this mesmerizing sensation. I think today is the day for all of us to promote the richness of our own culture, show treasures of our own bag and appreciate the richness of other cultures.

Waaan cCrazyie trippp 2 paradice of Maharashtra

Hi all,
Well, did i mention, I have a nice & naughty group of friends out here? If i have not then telling about our recent trip to Panchgani can be a good starter for this. Yes, after Goa trip I was determined that this is the best group i can ever had to go for a journey. Panchgani, mahabaleswar all these are famous place, so how can i miss them? NO way.. I dont want to miss anything related to traveling. Atlast the opportunity and the luck went to my favor. We set for mahabaleswar this sunday. The night journey in the bus half filled with our huge gang was awesome. We shouted till all our energy was emptied. The other half of the bus was trying to go for a deep sleep, so silently throwed infinite curses to us but who cares? We were all drunk. Some drunk with "pepsi" and the rest of us were in full masti. I can still remember what we were shouting about and all...too "shariff" to write here :D
Well, it ended with a nice 1 hour sleep and with a bad news that the bus driver perhaps slept for a while in the night :D the bus is too late.... I felt instant mood swing. what cud be worst news that this. We are gonna miss "morning in hill station". Early morning is my fav and when it comes to a hill station, it is just amazing. I can't miss watching the distant sky suddenly filled with newly born rays of light and the beautiful mountains, the fog covering the valleys making it almost like a heaven. Fortunately i did not miss it :) We were just in time to reach panchgani. It is simply awesome man.. u go and watch the valleys.. I felt jealous for those blessed villagers who can seat in the front door of their home every morning and get overwhelmed at the sight of the sun peeping from behind the mountains.
well, all the ,magic of mahabaleswar lies in the path to it. From the bus you can see the heaven in ur eyes, but the main city is not at all interesting. There is nothing which can be a spot to visit. The small bazaar, temples and all have become blur in my memory. The next place was some point called "sati sabitri point", i dont know who gave such a terrible name to it.. it is beyond every beauty. Awesome, I doubt is there any sufficiently advanced camera in the world to capture that scene... well, sometimes, i feel technology are too perfect to understand that natural thing, natural beauty like that can only be appreciated by a human being and they can not be captured by anything.. It always flow. Like that wind, that sensation and the river which we suppose were there in the long past.. Right now may be my language has become grammatically incorrect, may be i am speaking with out making any sense,,,,,,,,,may be the whole blog had become haphazard, well dont blame me.. blame that place whose memory has made me "mesmerized"...
Last but not the least, our boat, rowing by myself, damC and paresh and competition between our group and the other group in boating was real fun. Well, it was my weirdest interest to row and i did it finally. I felt good when i actually learned how to row. may be some day in kerala i can join a a rowing team and participate in rowing games.. :D
Atlast, we came back, singing every single songs with noisy tones, shouting evry single minute with terrible sound.. and reached our home.. Powai, IIT bombay, H-12, A wing room no 227 :)
