Personality Analysis and Web

Hi all,

Last few days I have been thinking on various sources of data. Yes, I am talking about knowledge, mining and blah blah blah. Here, I am planning to share my thoughts about personality mining. Obviously, the next thing comes to my mind if personalized PazeRank algorithm. The idea is simple, we need to find the static pagerank of each webpage is web based on taste of different users. The idea was clear, we need to take into account the need of individuals.
But, here I am talking about similar but different topic. I am talking about how we can understand one entity buy analyzing whatever the entity is responding with. Lets keep it simple and keep it in textual domain. The sources of such responses could be the chatting history or the emails or anything. The sources also include blogs written by him/her, comments and tweets. It could be his status messages in facebook too. Note, they may not be accessible but that is not the point. The challenge is that every one source is different from the other. So, we have challenges for each of these sources of text. The other day someone told me that reading chat history is completely different than the usual corpus data we work with and after downloading all my chat history from gmail I understood he is correct. Each one of these sources are too complicated to mine.It is pretty tough to conclude whether or not a particular chat contains any useful information or not, analyzing it would be beyond our reach. But, with so many customers in the web, it would become important for companies to classify their customers into equivalence classes of personality so that each one class could be treated accordingly to attain maximum gain.
Till now, the web is full of information, but the question is how to gain from it. Everyday one new twitter is redefining the language of social interaction. Today, Wikipedia, twitter and facebook are major examples of source of data but who knows, there may be new facebook on our desk tomorrow. Are we ready for it?

Artificial Intelligence - maximum likelihood problem?

Hi all,

The basic question that haunts most of us is what is intelligence. Here is what I feel like. It could be as simple as pattern matching. Think, when we are given a problem and asked to write an algorithm for it, we try to find what should be done to solve that problem. If we think deeply, then it is nothing but we are trying to map this problem to all the problems we have studied. As we know the solution of all those problems, we accordingly find a solution. If a perfect match occurs we simply say "use that algorithm" and draw a reference. Just like, sometimes we say "this is nothing but a shortest path finding problem and can be done in blah blah blah ways". If there is no perfect match then sometimes we design a new algorithm whose individual parts are some concepts learned at different times. So, the new algorithm is nothing but a combination of different patterns we have seen. But, all these arguments lead to the fact that intelligence is a kind of pattern matching that is being continuously done by ourselves and also everything we are learning from our mistakes and success. But, is it all??

Is it that we mean intelligence by who ever think correctly. let me bring another concept known as "logically". What is meant by logically. So, what is logic. Though question, but I think we are the creators of different logic system. The logic system is defined by us so that we can justify most of the examples we used to use. Those few which do not comply with the system, we say them as "Exceptions". So, is not it maximum likelihood theory. The system of axioms which explains most of the examples(word facts) are taken to be logic system. So, machine learning guys would understand that whether we going in correct direction or not.

But, what I think is that intelligence is something which may drive us beyond this logical system. That is what is known as path breaking research. We know such examples.. But, I think path breaking research is also guided by maximum likelihood theory. Why people think differently. Why intelligent part of our mind think a bit differently sometimes illogically to prove something different???

The common place to think in this way is when someone is explaining some topic and I am trying to find a bug in his way. We try to first match whether the theory is logical or not ( comply with existing system of logic example could be is he adding properly or not :)) and then we try to match whether all the real life examples are covered by it or not ( likelihood ) and ultimately we think of exceptions to his theory.

The point I am trying to make is that we think out of box just when we desire to find a better system of logic theory that could cover all the existing covered examples and also the examples which are not covered yet. So, is it so that all this theory of "maximum likelihood" is what real intelligence is all about?

This topic is really debatable topic of all time and I would like to hear some personal comments on this topic.

The Daily Prophet

HArRy PotTer & DEaThLy HaLLoWs
Hi ,

Most of you might had the dream of watching first day first show of HP7 but due to unavoidable circumstances it might not be materialized. I want to aggravate their feelings and hope this blog will force them to visit some multiplex in this weekend :)
Yes, as expected HP7 turns out to be excellent with so many new trends in HP series. I am a harry potter fan, so though my right hand wrist was almost twisted, I said "REPAIRO" & rushed to IMAX :)
Obviously, IMAX was then full with harry potter fans. Me and my friends spent half an hour to decode the sentiments of harry and hermione in HP poster.
Official HD Trailer of
HArRy PotTer & DEaThLy HaLLoWs

It was my first day in Mumbai IMAX and it was awesome and the screen was huge, definitely reminding me of NANDAN (Kolkata).

Now, let me share what the movie turned out to me..

It was awesome... Daniel Radcliffe was as usual performed well. Emma Watson was gorgeous and lovely to watch. The movie was truthful to the story (acc to my friends) and this makes the difference. Other HP series movies cut everything very short and brief while this one tried its best to keep every important details of the story and that makes it more special n interesting to watch. This had been possible since it shows part 1 of harry potter and deathly hallows.

Hermione, Ron and Harry all characters were live. The complications of relationship, emotion and friendship were perfectly shown. The starting of the movie was excellent. The emotional start of the war against the dark lord was fabulous. Emma Watson's acted excellently throughout. I never saw her acting so deeply.
Harry was not in Hogwarts so we discovered Radcliffe differently. The scene with NAGINI, sword of Gryffindor, Horcrux and all were excellent.
Somewhere the movie failed to explain things and that forced us to think about whys and hows in certain parts. The other thing that disappointed me was that there was no climax, instead it stopped in the midway. So, it remained incomplete till its second part releases...
It is definitely a must to watch movie and NO DOUBT about that... Please find the link to trailer below the picture posted in blog...

Just before Placement

Hi all,

Hope all of you are fine and enjoying your boring times delightedly :)
Hey, for those who bother to ask me the same Q I am fine here and enjoying my stay here in my little room. Oh, I haven't spoken about my little room in second floor of H-12 hostel. Let me share a photograph of the window view from my chair :D
Ohh its not that beautiful as it is in my eyes. Well I love this place. There has been rain all over the monsoon and that had covered the powai lake with YOU KNOW IT. Its renaissance restaurant out there. Hope, none can see it in the picture :P
Its really beautiful restaurant and costly too. You can say it is like a SKYLINE to our treat parties.

Well, the placement season is on and hope I will placed somewhere (may be a company or pavement ). But, also there is tension of project report submission and its bogus presentation. I am tired of taking pressure.
Well, for all those who despite being in IIT are not actually IITians by whatever, let me remind them the horrible term "presentation". This is supposed to be a presentation of what you have done or not done but here it is totally different, at least from my perspective. Examiners are sitting there either yawning indifferently or interrupting you from whatever you want to convey.

Well, the placement season is on and I am not prepared at all. Lots of talent hovering around me and I am one of those spared talents in IIT who got the label of being talented without knowing the basics as they don't want to be a talented.

The list of companies is impressive. Google came to give their PPT (well it means pre placement talk not powerpoint format ). Everyone including me were on the edge of their seats while Google explained whatever data mining work that can is done in research center of Google. It was impressive but it was Flipkart who impressed me better. Well, I am looking forward my luck for the placement season.

Lots of financial companies who works in data analysis are coming in campus. It is great to attend their presentations. Some companies are distributing prizes. I got two T-shirts one from Adobe and the other one from flipkart. It is nice to get T-shirts from these cos. I have kept them in my bag and will be presenting them to my nephews. They will be glad to have those. :D

I am missing my home terribly as speaking with near ones in phone does not work at all. I miss my friends but none of my college friends bother to call me a single time. One day swagata called me and I am glad as she did. I tried many of them but most of them did not pick up the phone. May be they have changed their number. I have lost my cell phone so I have very few contacts left in my cell phone. This part of the story is a bit saddy na!! But wherever you are my friends, best of luck and I love you all and will.

Hey, I forgot to inform one important thing. I have trekked Chanderi. It was an awesome experience. It was dangerous too. It was rocky and a single loss of balance could have broke my skull into pieces. My friend Vicky almost broke his legs. It was difficult time for me to bring the injured Vickie back to the bus. He was almost crying in pain. I felt his pain as much he did. But, it was fun. We had spent so much time in the hilly regions and I can never forget that soothing pleasure of dipping your bare legs into the cold water falls water when you are tired and panting so desperately. It was really nice. Me and Vickie were trying to find any resemblance of ourselves with Frodo and his friends (You know them na.. they are the heroes in Lord of the Rings, the famous story of middle Earth). It was really awesome. Adventure is what makes me feel good. I am still a child na!!!

I am also planning to have a tour in Kerala. How nice it would be to spend a weekend with my family, my parents under the trees and seeing the sea. It will be awesome. I want to drink those coconut water. I am thirsty. Kerala is calling me so deeply :)

Morning in IIT Campus

Perhaps morning is rarely studied in IIT campus. Most of the guys and girls sleep at this time. I am in my room, wake up almost every morning at around 7.30am. Strange na?? I am telling 7.30am to be morning? yes. when it is campus it is. My wing is asleep and I am the only guy may be not sleeping. well one of my roommate is not sleeping. He is preparing to sleep.. ha ha.. well i hope i will continue this later. I am in no mood now to continue.. why ??? I dont know..
